For beautiful photographs of your newborn baby…

Those first few days and weeks are mesmerising as you fall in love with your new baby, but they pass in a flash.  A professional newborn photo shoot captures those first days for you to cherish forever.

When is the best time to photograph a newborn?

Newborn sessions are best planned for when your baby is between 5 and 14 days old, so that he/she has had some time to settle after the birth but is still quite "curly" and sleepy.  For this reason, I recommend getting in touch and booking whilst you (or your partner) are still pregnant - I’ll book you into a timeframe according to your due date then, when your baby arrives, we can make a firm date for your session.  As the session is run according to your baby's needs, it's usually 2-4 hours long.

What if my baby is born early?

If your baby is a few days or a week early, we can schedule your session as normal for when he or she is between 5 and 14 days old. If your baby is a preemie, the best thing to do is to wait until he or she is past what would have been the 38 week point of your pregnancy, is over 5 lb in weight and is feeding well. It’s also best to wait until your baby has been home for a week if he or she has been in special care, so that he or she can settle. Do get in touch if you’d like a chat about a session if your baby has arrived a bit earlier than expected - I’ll gladly help to put your mind at rest about any concerns you might have.

Your baby’s safety and wellbeing during your session

The safety and well-being of your little one is my absolute top priority. I’m proud to have been awarded Newborn Safety Certification from the Master Photographers’ Association - I’m currently the only photographer in Monmouthshire to have one and one of only 5 in the whole of Wales - which means that your baby’s safety is at the heart of your photo shoot. The newborn photography industry is unfortunately currently unregulated - this means that no one checks up on photographers to make sure that they are working safely - but this certification can reassure you that your baby will be in the safest hands at my studio.

What’s included in the session fee?

Newborn photo sessions are currently priced at £75.  This includes:

  • A 2-4 hour session in my studio. Sessions run according to your baby's needs and are never rushed, and you will have exclusive use of the studio for the duration of your baby’s photo shoot.

  • Pre-shoot consultation and design. My studio is well-equipped with props, blankets, backdrops and outfits, which will be carefully selected and set up ready for your arrival, according to the colour schemes we'll discuss beforehand.

  • Retouching by hand of all images.

  • Your viewing and ordering session, which will take place approximately 1-2 weeks after your studio session.

Products are then available to purchase separately, and you can see my outline product guide here.

My baby has already arrived and is a week old, is it too late to book?

No, not at all! Get in touch via my contact page or on 07711 293847 and we'll try and find a date. If your baby is older than 2 weeks he or she may not be as sleepy or as curled up as they were but it's still completely possible to create beautiful photographs, so please do get in touch as soon as possible. To be absolutely sure of having a session it’s best to book when you’re still pregnant (and one less thing to think about after your baby’s arrived!) but I understand that for many reasons this might not happen, so please do contact me as soon as you can.
